If you have somewhere between $165,000 to $200,000 available, there’s a building for sale that may interest you.

The Borough of Munhall owns the building and is currently auctioning it off in a 24/7 online auction open to the public at www.municibid.com.

Bids close at 2 p.m. on Friday.

The 3-story brick building is located at 1850 West St. in Munhall.

Up until 2009, it was a used as a dormitory for the former Homestead Hospital School of Nursing. Since then the water has been turned off and it’s not been a fully functional building in 13 years. While it has seen better days, it appears to be solid, according to Borough Manager Seth Abrams.

“I have toured the building. I’m not an engineer or an architect, but the brick all appears to be solid,” Abrams said. “It’s got concrete floors; there doesn’t appear to be leakage coming into the top floor.

“So, somebody with the right vision could absolutely do something amazing with that building.”

Bidding was up to $163,000 as of late Tuesday afternoon.

“It’s gone beyond what I expected,” Abrams said. “Anything else would be amazing. I would love to see it hit $200,000 now that it’s gone this high. All I’m hoping for is a good neighbor, because there are social services and municipal services within a couple of hundred feet of that building. I hope it’s put to good use.”

The sale proceeds will go into the borough’s budget.

“It will pay for expanding some of the services as well as pay off some of the debt that was incurred with the construction of our new (borough) building,” he said.
